As a trivia host at a lot of breweries, I get asked to emcee lots of weekend events which I am usually 100% on board to do. Here are some of the perks of hosting such events:
Free beer
Leads to other gigs
Insanely fun interactions with drunk folks
Now since I'm doing a dry January, the free beer didn't come in super handy. But, this particular festival was called The Brews and Bros Festival and was put on by Last Name Brewing, my Wednesday night home for almost three full years. The brewery, among 60 others, was also celebrating its 15th anniversary, which was all kinds of fun.
I hosted a raffle and got to meet some fun folks who won things like baseball game tickets and Beats by Dre headphones. It was grand! I even ran into some of my favorite trivia players!
And to top it off, my old Chicago comedy pal Bradley Fojas came up to me after the raffle and said, "I heard the name Ryan Budds and thought, 'there's probably only one of those." Great catching up with my Chi-to-LA buds!
Another guy also offered me an emcee spot at his dog charity event in the area just a few blocks from my house this Spring. All in all, it was a splendid day.
Even though it's a dry January for me, Last Name Brewing still gave me a 6-pack of their 15th Anniversary IPA to drink in February. And drink it I shall!
